The Big One (2009) is an original oil painting on canvas and an early milestone in my work; the first piece I showed after becoming a mother. A curving female figure is constructed square by square in pastel tones inspired by El Paso sunrises I watched during my first pregnancy. Against a gray-brown, flag-like background, the painting explores beauty standards, body politics, and the cultural turn toward celebrating fuller figures. It’s a bold, thoughtful work that carries both personal memory and a wider social conversation.
A significant early work from 2009, ideal for collectors interested in the evolution of my grid-based figurative paintings.
